April 1-3 (Hartford City) Earth Care Retreat at John 23rd Retreat Center
In his second encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for our Common Home, Pope Francis invites every person on the planet to engage in a discussion about how human beings are affecting the earth’s air, soil, water, and biodiversity.
The impact of humans on the planet is so great that some scientists argue we are living in a new epoch, the Anthropocene. In this workshop, we will examine the roots of our ecological crisis and learn how science and religion together can shed light on a wise path forward. The impacts of our consumer culture on the poorest among us is a common theme of Pope Francis, and he reminds us that each of us bears responsibility. Power points, responsive writing, large and small group discussions, art, poetry, and music will help us to focus on the uniqueness of Planet Earth and to begin to develop our own individual action plan for caring for our common home.
- Learn the Biblical basis for earth care
- Learn how science reinforces Scripture
- Understand more fully the interdependence of all living things
